In January 2014 it was confirmed that David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst would reprise their roles as Derek "Del Boy" Trotter and Rodney Trotter in a one off sketch for Sport Relief, airing on the 21st March 2014 with a viewing figure of 9.53 million. The sketch was similar to the 6 previous sketches shown such as "Christmas Trees" and "Royal Variety Show". The sketch featured a celebrity appearance from former footballer David Beckham. This is said to be the last ever episode of OFAH, whether full or a sketch.

Synopsis[]

10 years has passed since Rodney became a father to Joan Trotter Jnr and found out that him and Del Boy share different fathers. It is now early 2014 and Del and Rodney are still trading, and Del has not yet retired, him and Rodney are now selling new pants down Peckham market. Del is saying that the pants are signed by the man himself, David Beckham, whom the pants are named after. Rodney is embarrassed at having to wear some over his jeans to model them. Del and Rodney then go to a cafe for a bacon butty and coffee. Del mentions how he once let Rodney think he was The Peckham Pouncer and about the time he had to pretend to be 14 all week after winning a competition. Del and Rodney chat with David Beckham. Del thinks David's son Brooklyn is called "Brookside Beckham" and that Alan Sugar is Alec Sugar. As they all head out to the market, David leans on a portable rack. He signs a young boys autograph but as he goes to lean back on the rack, the rack has been moved and David falls to the floor. Del says "What a plonker", with Rodney muttering the line along with Del.

Observations[]

  • This episode refers to previous episodes such as "Wanted" and "The Unlucky Winner Is...".
  • Some of the dialogue in the episode was written by John Sullivan which never previously made it to the series, intended for "Heroes and Villains", about how Rodney hid in an ottoman and it took them ages to find him. John Sullivan's sons added this into this sketch.
  • Although Roger Lloyd Pack had passed away in January 2014, Trigger is mentioned still being alive as of this episode.

Trivia[]

  • Before his death, Roger Lloyd Pack was interested in returning for the sketch and Trigger was written into the original script. But before he could film it he passed away, although Lloyd Pack would have been unable to return regardless as he was in poor health, no matter how much he wanted to take part. The episode was dedicated to the memory of Roger, as well as series creator John Sullivan, and Trigger is mentioned in the episode.
  • This marks the final Only Fools and Horses related sketch, as in 2019 it was confirmed the series would never return, mainly due to a lot of the major cast members having since passed away.
